What is this trend

This trend starts with a phone held low to the ground, capturing only someone's shoes and legs as they walk toward the camera.

As Ramalama (Bang Bang) by Róisín Murphy builds, the viewer can tell a reveal is coming, but not who the character is yet. Then, right on the beat, the camera lifts to reveal the full costume.

The format has been used for everything from Coraline's Other Mother and Starfire to the Sanderson sisters, Alice in Wonderland characters, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash, and Resident Evil's Dimitrescu daughters.

Across six related videos posted between September 29 and October 4, the trend generated roughly 50.5M combined views.

The formula

Every video follows the same basic setup. The camera starts low, showing only the shoes and part of the outfit as someone walks toward the lens.
